Passage: Amos 5:14-15

Series Information

Pride is one of the most dangerous diseases, but also one of the most hidden. It is time to examine the heart, focusing specifically on the corrosive nature of personal pride and complacency. Through the books of Amos and Obadiah, God exposes how pride leads to both the oppression of others, or superiority, and a false sense of security, ultimately resulting in spiritual ruin. We see countless examples in our society of high profile, public figures who fall from power. The Bible is consistently warning about the dangers of pride, with numerous examples of nations, families and people falling victim to the fall from power. How do we ensure we do not do the same? The good news is God has provided a solution through the person of Jesus, who became high and lifted up by going low. There is always a better way, and each week we’ll be reminded of the antidote to pride is humility, ultimately found in the person and work of Jesus.
